The James Joyce Society of Sarasota
Announces
B E G I N N I N G "U L Y S S E S”
We are happy to announce the formation of another new
reading group starting in September 2009: “Beginning Ulysses.” This
group is for those who have yet to read James Joyce’s novel Ulysses and
for those who wish to re-read it in greater depth in a congenial discussion
venue. Each session will be led by a facilitator who will direct the analyses
of the various chapters, hoping to help the new readers to cope with some
of the more difficult challenges Joyce has laid out in his funny, complex,
and thoroughly entertaining novel. As you may know, Ulysses has been
recognized as the greatest novel of the twentieth century. We are certain
that when you have completed this extraordinary work you will understand
why.
WHEN: --September 16, 2009: Introduction to Ulysses: Approaching
the novel—Joyce’s narrative techniques.
--September 23: The first chapter, “Telemachus.”
[All subsequent meetings will be on the first and third
Wednesdays of each month. Complete schedule will be
posted later.]
TIME: 10:15 AM - 11:45 AM
WHERE: Meeting Space North Library
